Planet Smart Launches to Tackle the Global Plastic Crisis in Hygiene Products

We’re proud to announce the launch of Planet Smart, a portfolio company pioneering a new category of sustainable materials for hygiene products. Disposable diapers and menstrual pads are among the world’s largest contributors to plastic waste, driven in large part by the use of fossil-based superabsorbent polymers (SAPs). These materials can take hundreds of years to degrade and are a significant source of microplastic pollution.

Planet Smart is changing that with the introduction of PlanetSorb — the first biodegradable, microplastic-free superabsorbent polymer (bioSAP) designed for industrial scalability. PlanetSorb decomposes naturally within months, even in landfill conditions, without compromising on absorbency or performance.

By leveraging existing manufacturing infrastructure, Planet Smart enables immediate adoption by product manufacturers, offering a high-impact, capital-efficient path to sustainability.

This milestone marks a meaningful step forward for both the hygiene industry and the global effort to reduce plastic pollution.
